Indroda Nature Park

Spread over roughly 400 hectares along the Sabarmati, Indroda Nature Park combines a zoo, botanical garden and crocodile breeding centre with a dedicated Dinosaur and Fossil Park and natural history museum, displaying skeletal casts and fossil evidence connected to central Gujarat’s Narmada valley, one of the richest dinosaur fossil and egg-hatchery sites in the world. The park’s exhibits trace prehistoric life alongside Gujarat’s living wildlife, making it a popular stop for school groups. Walking trails wind through mixed forest cover maintained as a green buffer within Gandhinagar’s planned city layout. Indroda Nature Park sits at an elevation of 73 m and is typically explored in about 2-3 hours. The most favourable months to visit are January, December, November, and February, when conditions are best suited for sightseeing. Other notable highlights include life-size dinosaur replicas along fossil trail, two-horned Indian rhinoceros in spacious enclosure, and crocodile feeding session at reptile pond.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do we reach Indroda Nature Park from Gandhinagar city centre, and is parking available?

The park is located about 8 km from Gandhinagar bus stand, on the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar road near the Gujarat Science City. You can take an auto-rickshaw or a local bus, and there is ample free parking for cars and buses at the entrance. For a group, hiring a private van is also a good option, as the return trip can be arranged with the same driver.

Are there any food and water facilities available inside the park?

There is a small canteen near the entrance that serves snacks, tea, and cold drinks, but the options are limited. We suggest carrying your own water bottles and light snacks, especially for a group. There are clean restrooms near the main entrance and near the dinosaur section, but not scattered throughout the park.

What are the main attractions inside the park that we should not miss?

The park is famous for its life-size dinosaur replicas, a fossil museum, and a botanical garden with over 400 species of plants. You should also see the deer park, the crocodile breeding centre, and the pre-historic rock paintings. Give yourself at least 2 to 3 hours to cover all the key zones comfortably.

What are the visiting hours and entry fees for Indroda Nature Park?

The park is open from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM on all days except Mondays and government holidays. Entry fees are very nominal, around Rs. 10 per adult and Rs. 5 per child, with no separate charge for senior citizens. It is best to visit in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the heat.

Is the park suitable for senior citizens or those with mobility issues?

Yes, the park has paved walkways and is mostly flat, making it easy to navigate at a leisurely pace. However, the park is large (about 400 hectares), so we recommend using a wheelchair or taking frequent rests at shaded benches. There are also battery-operated golf carts available for hire at the entrance for a small fee.
