Named for its distinctive curved, moon-like shoreline, this small beach lies beyond Om Beach along the coastal footpath that links Gokarna’s string of beaches, and its relative inaccessibility by road has kept it quieter and less commercially developed. A few seasonal shacks offer food and basic huts for overnight stays, drawing travellers seeking a calmer alternative to the more crowded beaches closer to town. Half Moon Beach sits at an elevation of 20 m and is typically explored in about 1-2 hours. The most favourable months to visit are November, January, February, and March, when conditions are best suited for sightseeing. Nearby points of interest include Half Moon Beach Camping Grounds, Om Beach Viewpoint, and Half Moon Beach Shoreline. Other notable highlights include secluded crescent sand with only a few huts, coastal trail from Om Beach with ocean views, and boat ride from Gokarna's main beach to cove. It falls within Uttara Kannada district and Karnataka, India.

The water is generally calm and shallow near the shore, making it safe for wading, but strong currents can occur during high tide or monsoon season. For senior travellers, it is best to swim only in the designated calm areas, avoid going deep, and always stay close to the shore with a companion.
There are a few basic beach huts and tents, but they have no electricity, attached bathrooms, or proper bedding, which can be uncomfortable for older guests. Staying overnight is not recommended unless you are an experienced backpacker; it is better to return to Gokarna town for a comfortable hotel with modern amenities.
You need to trek about 2.5 kilometers from the main Gokarna beach or take a boat from the Gokarna jetty, which takes about 20 minutes. The trek involves rocky, uneven paths with some steep sections, so it is not recommended for those with mobility issues; the boat is a safer and more comfortable option.
There are a few small shacks serving simple meals like rice, dal, and fresh fish, but no proper restrooms or medical facilities. You should carry your own drinking water, snacks, and any personal medications, as the nearest doctor or pharmacy is back in Gokarna town.
Early morning (before 9 am) is ideal for a peaceful visit, as the beach is less crowded and the sun is not too harsh. Afternoon hours can be very hot and crowded with day-trippers, so plan to leave by late afternoon to catch the last boat back to Gokarna.
