Constructed between 1936 and 1941 with land and patronage from Maharaja Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV, St. Philomena’s Church was modelled loosely on the Cologne Cathedral in Germany, its twin spires reaching roughly 175 feet to make it one of the tallest churches in Asia at the time of completion. Stained-glass windows depicting scenes from the life of Christ line its nave, and an underground crypt beneath the altar holds a relic of St. Philomena, the church’s namesake. St. Philomena’s Church sits at an elevation of 760 m and is typically explored in about 1 hour. The most favourable months to visit are January, December, June, and July, when conditions are best suited for sightseeing. Nearby points of interest include Front Courtyard and Grotto of Our Lady, Bell Tower and Viewing Gallery, and Main Gothic-Style Church Building. Other notable highlights include twin spires rising 175 feet high, stained glass panels depicting Christ's life, and crypt housing St. Philomena's relics. It falls within Mysuru, Mysuru district, and Karnataka, India.

Yes, there is free parking available in the church compound, and clean public restrooms are located near the main entrance. Within a 10-minute walk, you will find the Mysuru Zoo, Chamundi Hill viewpoint, and several small eateries serving South Indian filter coffee and snacks, though we recommend carrying water bottles.
Early mornings between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM are ideal, as the light filters through the stained-glass windows beautifully and the crowd is thin. Avoid Sunday mornings due to mass services, and also skip the late afternoon hours (4:30 PM to 6:00 PM) when tour groups and school trips usually arrive.
A typical visit takes about 45 minutes to an hour, including time for prayer, photography, and exploring the grounds. The main church hall is wheelchair accessible via a side ramp, but the tower climb involves steep, narrow stairs and is not recommended for those with knee or heart problems.
While there is no strict dress code, it is respectful to dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, as it is an active place of worship. Please maintain silence inside the main hall, avoid using flash photography during mass times, and remove your hat before entering the sanctuary.
The church is open daily from 5:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and entry is completely free for all visitors. However, if you wish to climb up to the tower for a panoramic view of Mysuru, there is a small fee of around ₹10 per person, which is collected at the base of the staircase.
