Built by Sultan Muhammed Shah Aga Khan III partly as a charitable gesture during a regional famine, the palace’s grand arches and gardens later became a detention site for Gandhi, his wife Kasturba, and his secretary Mahadev Desai following the 1942 Quit India call, with Kasturba and Desai both dying here in captivity; a memorial to them stands on the grounds today. Aga Khan Palace sits at an elevation of 564 m. The most favourable months to visit are January, November, December, and October, when conditions are best suited for sightseeing. Other notable highlights include samadhi of Mahatma and Kasturba Gandhi, original photographs of Gandhi's detention years, and personal belongings and letters of the Gandhis. It falls within Pune, Pune district, and Maharashtra.

The ground floor and main museum halls are largely flat and wheelchair-friendly, with ramps at the main entrance. However, the upper floor, which houses some exhibits, is only reachable by stairs, so plan to focus on the ground level if stairs are a concern. Benches are available in the gardens and near the main hall for rest breaks.
Early morning, right after opening at 9:00 AM, is the quietest and coolest time, especially between October and February. Avoid late mornings and weekends when local school groups and tourists arrive. If visiting in summer (March to May), go as early as possible, as the gardens offer little shade.
Yes, there is a nominal entry fee for Indian citizens (around Rs 25) and a higher fee for foreign nationals (around Rs 200), with no charge for children under 10. Photography is allowed with a small camera fee, but video cameras are not permitted. You can hire an official guide at the ticket counter for a reasonable fee, or use the informative display boards inside.
Clean restrooms are available near the entrance, and there is a drinking water cooler in the main building. There is no café or restaurant inside, so carry a water bottle and some light snacks, but do not eat inside the museum halls. For a proper meal, you will need to walk or drive about 10 minutes to nearby hotels or restaurants on the main road.
Plan for about 1.5 to 2 hours to walk through the main building, the museum galleries, and the peaceful gardens. If you wish to sit quietly in the memorial area or read all the historical panels, add another 30 minutes. The palace is not very large, so it suits a relaxed pace for senior travellers.
