The hot springs at Unai emerge naturally warm and sulphur-rich from the ground near the Purna river in the forested hills bordering Maharashtra, and local belief holds that bathing in them helps with skin conditions and joint pain, drawing a steady stream of visitors alongside the pilgrims who come for the adjacent Unai Mata temple. The site combines a low-key natural spa atmosphere with religious significance, and its location amid the Sahyadri foothills makes it a cooler, greener stop than the coastal towns further west in the district. Unai Hot Springs is typically explored in about 1-2 hours. The most favourable months to visit are January, November, December, and February, when conditions are best suited for sightseeing. Other notable highlights include soaking in the 40°C sulphur pool at dawn, offering prayers at the ancient Unai Mata temple, and watching steam rise off the water on cool mornings. It falls within Valsad, Valsad district, and Gujarat, India.

Yes, there are basic changing rooms and a few public washrooms near the main tank, but they are simple and may not be spotless. You will also find small tea stalls and snack vendors nearby, but no proper restaurant. Carry your own towel, soap, and water bottle, as these are not provided.
Unai is a sacred site linked to Lord Shiva, so dress modestly (cover shoulders and knees) and remove footwear before entering the temple area adjacent to the springs. It is customary to take a dip as a purification ritual, but avoid splashing or loud behaviour out of respect for local devotees. Photography inside the temple is usually not allowed.
The ideal time is between November and February, when daytime temperatures are pleasant (15-25°C) and humidity is low. Avoid April to June as it gets extremely hot, and monsoon months (July-September) can make the steps around the springs slippery.
The water is naturally mineral-rich and considered safe for bathing, but it is not for drinking. The temperature is around 60°C, so always enter slowly and avoid full immersion if you have heart conditions, high blood pressure, or are pregnant. Test the water with your hand first, and limit exposure to 10-15 minutes.
Unai is about 40 km from Valsad, and you can take a state transport bus or hire a private taxi (approx. 1.5 hours). Buses are infrequent, so for a group or seniors, a pre-booked taxi or private vehicle is far more comfortable and reliable. The last stretch includes a few winding roads, so ask the driver to go slowly.
