Day 1: Arrival and Exploration of Sundarbans
– 8:00 AM: After breakfast at your hotel, you will depart from Kolkata in an air-conditioned car or passenger van. Alternatively, a pickup can be arranged from Science City at 8:30 AM. Enjoy a scenic 3.5-hour drive to Godkhali, the last road stop on the Indian mainland.
– 12:00 PM: Upon arrival at Godkhali, board the boat and sail to the island of Gosaba, the largest market hub for nearby villages.
– 1:30 PM: Reach your resort on Sonagaon Island, followed by a traditional lunch.
– 3:00 PM: Take a leisurely walk through picturesque paddy fields and the village of honey collectors and fishermen. Immerse yourself in the local lifestyle, traditions, and beliefs, in a village untouched by cars or electricity.
– 3:30 PM: Set out on a tranquil boat ride for bird watching. Over the next two to three hours, spot various species like seven types of kingfishers, egrets, Brahmani eagles, pond herons, black cormorants, and more. You’ll also get introduced to the stunning mangroves and fascinating creatures like fiddler crabs and mudskippers.
– 6:30 PM: Return to the resort just after sunset.
– 7:00 PM: Enjoy a captivating evening of local tribal dance and song performances. Guests can join in for a fun and interactive experience, accompanied by refreshments.
– 9:00 PM: Dinner will be served at your convenience, allowing you to relax and unwind before retreating for the night in the comfort of your resort.
Day 2: Full-Day Sundarbans Jungle Safari
– 7:30 AM: Start your day early by boarding a luxury boat. After obtaining the necessary permissions and a forest-approved guide, embark on a thrilling boat cruise through the vast Sundarbans mangroves, one of the largest in the world, rich in flora and fauna.
– The full-day boat cruise will take you to three prominent watchtowers: Sajnekhali, Sudhanyakhali, and Dobanki. You’ll explore the Sajnekhali Tiger Reserve, Crocodile Project, Turtle Project, Mangrove Interpretation Center, Bono Bibi Temple, as well as Sudhanyakhali and Dobanki Watchtowers. Experience the canopy walk at Dobanki and cruise through the narrow creeks and channels of Pirkhali, Gazikhali, and the Pancha Mukhani (Five River Confluence).
– As you cruise through these natural waterways, keep an eye out for wildlife such as spotted deer, wild boars, civet cats, monitor lizards, crocodiles, dolphins, and the majestic Royal Bengal Tiger.
– Breakfast, lunch, and refreshments will be freshly prepared and served on the boat during the cruise.
– 4:30–5:00 PM: The boat ride concludes, and you will begin your journey back to Kolkata. Arrival in Kolkata is expected by 8:00 PM.
